Local normal, small town eatery. Reasonably priced with kind hometown service. Honest, funny staff!

Nice little dinner!! Def has that mom and pops feel to it, reasonably priced. Completely satisfied every time we come in!

Service was quick and efficient. All our needs were met and then some. Food was great! Thanks for having us, we will be back next time we are in town.

Locals eat here so you know it's good! Chicken noodle soup tasted like Mom's. Staff was extremely friendly and polite! Atmosphere was perfect! We will be back when we return.

Never been here before and just got done with breakfast. Not only was the service amazing, but the food was so yummy. I will definitely becoming back here and would recommend it to anyone passing through who is wanting a really good breakfast.

Always a great breakfast at South of the Border. Their omelets are great, filled generously with good stuff! This is our go-to breakfast place when we visit Grand Marais.

Very friendly service, and good service. But it took a long time to get food and it was overpriced for quality and quantity of it. And no one ordered food when we did, it was empty and it still took a long time and it's not like its fresh out of the garden or anything. But the place is small and cozy with friendly service which doesn't make up for prices, ect. but it still is nice.

Not knowing what to expect, my wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch. Restaurant was half-full so we helped ourselves to a booth. Young lady greeted us and informed us that our hostess would be with us in a moment. From there the service was quick, food was fantastic and cost was super cheap. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back when we're in the area.

Good food and straight forward service. I got the fresh Herring plate with 2 eggs, potatoes and toast. No frills diner. Definitely a good option if you need breakfast. CASH ONLY.

Hmm everything about this place is bad except the omelette. Dont waste your money on the fried potatoes. The omelette was delicious.

Great food, open VERY early (5am). The name means South of the Canadian border - it's not Mexican food, it's a standard American cafe with eggs, pancakes, omelets, ham, coffee, orange juice. Bring CASH, no credit cards. There's an ATM across the street at Holiday. The staff is quick and the food is quick, hot and tasty. They are open until 2pm and have lunch items as well, but I've always just had breakfast foods. My favorite is the scrambled eggs and ham.

Great food and atmosphere for this small town cafe in Grand Marias! Breakfast is fresh and hot with delicious coffee. I had the western omelet with homemade potato (hash browns) and pancake. It’s very filling and will tie you over until Dinner time.

Nice, no frills, small town cafe...open early for breakfast and lunch, but closed before dinner time...typical cafe menu, decent sized portions for the price...some spots allow glimpses of Lake Superior...friendly and fast service...many items can be prepared for takeout, no delivery...very small parking lot, but parking also available on the side street next door...don't be fooled by the name, it's not Mexican themed, it's "south" of the Canadian border!!! Been going there for years when I want a quick bite, or want to sip coffee and browse through the newspaper.

This is a fun place to grab some good food. Value is good and I had the best egg and ham omelet. I must say the service was excellent I will be returning soon.

What a wonderful little spot to stop for a bite eat! It had hands down the best ham and cheese sandwich I have ever eaten. The fries were perfection and their homemade soup was spot on. So glad we stopped at South of the Border Cafe!

Basic diner with a limited menu. I wish they had hashbrowns for breakfast because the potatoes are bland. Pancakes are also too thin and not fluffy.

Is it okay to review a place for the service alone? the lady waitress we had was so damn fun that I'd go back just for her. I wish I knew her name. The food does take a bit of time if they are busy, but they're busy, so it's just part of the routine. Omelettes, All-American type breakfasts, Hamburger Steak and Eggs, all good choices. The staff is great about keeping your coffee cup full while you wait!!
